Internet Website Development

Introduction

Here at I.T. Programming we love the internet! It is such a valuable resource for information, shopping etc and we marvel at how the internet has changed since we first began learning how to build web pages back in 1994.

I want a website but don't know where to begin?

In a nutshell, to have a website you need a domain (e.g. it-programming.co.uk) and a hosting package. You need to upload your web pages & images to the web server using FTP (there are tools available e.g. FileZilla if you are not a command line computer geek!). In order to view your website then your domain needs to be configured to point to the address of your web server i.e. map the files to the domain name.

If you find this daunting or need help then please contact I.T. Programming for advice.

Domain Names and hosting

We can advise you on domain names and how to choose them. We can register domains for you & even host your website - our hosting packages start from an incredible £35 per year.

How much does a website cost?

Buying a domain and a website hosting package is very cheap i.e. can be less than £40 per year. The cost for building a website depends on your requirements but probably less than what you imagine. For example a simple 5 page website with a contact us page (e.g. bluebridgeconsulting.co.uk would be less than £300.

Website Design

Although we are capable of designing attractive websites we recognise that our skills are primarily programming so we often outsource the design to some extremely talented freelance web designers that work for us.

Website Development

Building a website is not particularly difficult especially considering all the available tools on the market including some free ones. However these tools often produce poor quality code that the search engines doesn't like meaning your website may not appear as high in the search engine listings as it should. We build websites that are optimised for the search engines meaning we use the correct tags for markup and place the keywords in the correct places.

See the web site development page for further information.

E-Commerce Websites

E-commerce is obviously a method of selling your products or services via a website and this is an area we specialise in.

  • a database to store the items you are selling.
  • a programming language to interface with the database.
  • A payment gateway for handling the website payment transactions.
  • An admin facility for managing the site.

See the e-commerce page for more information on building database driven e-commerce sites.

Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)

There is little point in having a great looking website if you don't have any visitors. Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is the process of achieving a high ranking in the search engine listings.

See the Search Engine Optimisation page for further information on how to achieve a great search engine rating.
