IPL have vast experience in database design and
database development. This experience has been
gained in a wide variety of databases ranging from PC
based systems to full client/server databases.
MS SQL ServerSQL Server is a very powerful
client/server database supporting large volumes of data,
users, transactions etc. The performance & stability
of this database make it a very attractive option if you
already have NT servers running in your organisation.
Obviously SQL Server works very well with other
Microsoft products and languages.
MS AccessAccess is a database that is often
sneered at by the IT industry. However, here at IPL we
fully appreciate the role Access has to offer. Access is
a powerful database through which many complex
applications can be built fairly quickly using its
in-built objects & the VBA programming language.
MySQLTraditionally MySQL was seen as a very
fast database without the scalibility of more
traditional large scales DBMS's as it didn't support
transactions, stored procedures etc. However, each new
release of MySQL sees new functionality being added that
make MySQL a very viable large scale database. It is
used to drive many websites in conjunction with PHP.
Note: MySQL is
often referred to as being Open Source but this is not
the case as a licence is required for commercial use.
Obviously the licence is a fraction of SQLServer &
Oracle. There are true Open Source databases available
(e.g. PostgreSQL) but MySQL is the dominant
non-commercial database that is being constantly
developed.
OracleOracle is the database of choice for high
volume mission critical applications. As such it is an
expensive option that requires a very experienced DBA
(database administrator) to correctly set all the
options for the system to run to its full capacity.
